Have you ever felt guilty for not keeping in touch with your friends?

One of the things that sends pangs of guilt through my system is not keeping in touch with friends like I would like to.  These days my schedule is so intense that keeping in touch even with my own relatives and very closest friends is impossible.

At the same time, as an executive mentor / consultant, I have the rare privilege of spending days at a time with some of the finest leaders of our generation.  I continue to grow personally  learning more in the past year than I’ve learned in the five years before it.

MENTORING REALITIES

In my book Mentoring I define mentoring, ideally, as “A life long relationship in which the mentor helps the protege grow into her / his God given potential over a lifetime”.  Realistically, because of schedule pressures my personal mentoring is limited to a very few individuals.  At the same time I truly want to see friends like you grow into your God given potential over your lifetime.

King Solomon was the wisest man that ever lived.   In Proverbs he gave us this profound and timeless bit of advice ... SEEK WISDOM!   This is advise that our modern world seems to overlook.  The search of today seems to be to be a courageous, charming, powerful, successful person.

MAKING WISE DECISIONS

One of the main areas we need wisdom is when making critical, costly, risky decisions.  It is at these life turning points when we long for a wise grandfather, grandmother, aunt, uncle, father or mother to help us ask the profound questions which lead to wise decisions.

Unfortunately, may times our wise relatives and friends have passed away, live in a distant city, or can’t be reached in the middle of the night.  Sometimes, we are somewhat hesitant or even embarrassed to ask for help.

A while ago I decided to ask many friends, presidents, professors, PhD’s, M. D.s, CPA’s etc. to share with me the twenty questions they would teach their children in the area of their own expertise before making such a decision.
