Creativity

EVERYONE IS CREATIVE!

Some prefer creating originally. Some prefer creating adaptively.

These two ways of creating are not right or wrong ... they are just very different.

In an ideal setting the original creator, when given a new problem in an area of confidence and competence, asks for a blank sheet of paper and some time alone to figure the problem out. If given proven samples ... the most typical response is to say, "Just put them over there and when I have thought it through I’ll check those models to see if I have missed any key area." He / She asks the question, "If it has been done once that way ... why would we do it that way again?" When reading, the original creator looks for new theories upon which to create original models.

In an ideal setting the adaptive creator, when given a new problem in an area of confidence and competence, researches to find 1-3 proven model(s) of how others have done the task successfully.  He/she then uses these adaptive models to start the mental engines and creates something that is "better than any of the three." He / She asks the question, "Why recreate the wheel?" One of the well-developed skills of the adaptive creator is research ... finding models to adapt. When reading, the adaptive creator looks for models to apply creatively to his / her situation.

Both are creative. Both are effective.

Which way do you prefer creating?
